ZURICH OBTAIN THREE SERB WORLD-CLASS PLAYERS

Luxembourg/Zurich, June 26, 2007. Women’s Champions’ League participant Voléro ZURICH from Switzerland is completing its team with three further Serb players, namely Ivana Djerisilo, Anja Spasojevic and Branka Sekulic.

The Serb newcomers will join ZURICH’s core with Natasa Krsmanovic, Sladjana Eric, Marina Vujovic as well as captain Robyn Ah Mow-Santos and Irina Volchkova next season. Stav Jacobi has created a better coordinated team, able to reach the Champions’ League playoffs. “Last season taught me to be more careful regarding the composition of the team”, he stated, “I planned more time for the conversation with the players.” As a result, Jacobi managed to pull three strong Serbs with a lot of experience in European clubs competitions on board.

Diagonal spiker Ivana Djerisilo was part of the national team of Serbia Montenegro which won the bronze medal at the 2006 World Championships in Japan, same as Natasa Krsmanovic. Born in 1983, the 1.86m tall Serb started her career at ‘Red Star Belgrade’ where she played in the Champions’ League for two years. From 2004 to 2006 Vicenza was her club prior to last season where she played for Turkish Eczacibasi ISTANBUL, finally losing against DELA Martinus AMSTELVEEN in the 12-team playoff round. She was nominated MVP and as well as ‘Best Server’ during the final match of the Turkish National Championships 2007.

24-year-old Anja Spasojevic played for NOVARA during the past three years where she won the Champions’ League silver medal in 2004/05. Top Teams Cup and CEV Cup victories followed. Same as Djerisilo, Spasojevic started off her career with ‘Red Star Belgrade’ at the age of 15 and stayed up until 2004. Her biggest success is third place in the World Championships 2006.

36-year-old Branka Sekulic is one of the most experienced and successful middle blockers in Europe. Playing six years for ‘Red Star Belgrade’ where she was nominated MVP several times, contracts in Italy (Modena, Vicenza and Novara amongst others) followed. In 2001 she was awarded ‘Best Blocker’ of the Italian League. The last stops of the 1.86m tall Serb were Grupo 2002 MURCIA (ESP) and Emlakbank ANKARA (TUR).
